For you have the poor always with you; but me you have not always. Matthew 26:11I don't know about you, but this verse gets to my heart. Too often we forget to prioritize Him before anyone or anything else. Since the poor will always be with us, while Jesus will not, we must not rush to help the poor. The poor aren't going anywhere (that's clear in the verse above).
We are living in a culture where, even those who claim Christ, have traded their true identity for trying to find it in the worship of idols. Idols of happiness, idols of people and helping the poor... The list goes on.
We must always seek the Lord more than anything else. Are we seeking to help the poor, more than we seek to find Him?
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Psalm 34:17
God tells us He will provide. That means we shouldn't worry about the poor and sick, because God will provide and He will help the righteous.
I don’t think socialism or welfare is God’s idea. I support a system that is BETTER, more charitable, more efficient and more beneficial to everyone. I support a system where the Lord is in charge - a system where He will provide.
